First run in 1999, the Verbier Ride began as a social event and friendly competition for young free skiers and Verbier locals. In five short years the Verbier Ride has become one of the worlds premier freeride and new school alpine events, attracting the best athletes from all over the world. The combination of the world's best ski terrain and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere makes this event incredibly popular with competing skiers spectators alike.
In 2006 the Verbier Ride Big Mountain freeride was invited to become part of the IFSA (International Freesking Association) Freeskiing World Tour, the first ever of it's kind in Switzerland .
The Verbier Ride is not an invitational event; all three disciplines are open to accomplished aspiring skiers that are eager to compete with the pros and sponsored riders. We believe that it is important to encourage the development of our up-and-coming athletes and to give them the exposure and experience they need to maximise their talents.
2003 was a breakthrough year for the Verbier Ride with its inclusion in the European Free Skiing Tour and the global distribution deal with Quattro Media. The 4th annual Verbier Ride was an entertaining, action-packed and friendly gathering, featuring some of the world's best free skiers.
Verbier Ride 04 what another step forwards for the freeskiing event and it's athletes gathering up over 390 hours of television distribution. The first ever Verbier Ride DVD was released on giving the rider further coverage.
Verbier Ride 05 saw over 150 athletes in Verbier from the 5-9 March. It will be the first ever freeskiing comp to have a computer game made after it. The computer game titled 'The Verbier Ride' due to be released.
Verbier Ride 06 achieved it's goal to become part of the IFSA (International Freeskiing Association) Freeskiing World Tour. With the new World Tour status, the event is expected to attract the elite freeskiers to the infamous meeting place of the Mont Gele, where they will demonstrate the style and skill essential for skiing the variable and challenging terrain.
Due to the growth of the Ride Event Series, the Big Mountain aspect of the Verbier Ride has been given its own stand alone event titled 'The Big Mountain Heli Ride'. This event will take place just after the Verbier Ride (now slopestyle and skiercross) finishes. The date of the Big Mountain Heli Ride is 21st - 25th February. The website for the event, www.bigmountain-heliride.com , will be live Monday 6th November.
The Verbier Ride 07 is focusing on the Freestyle aspect of the event with an aim to become in 3 years one of Europe 's tops Slope Style events attracting the World top freestyle athletes. Verbier Ride 07 takes place from the 17 th to the 20 th February. |
